I don’t agree with your comment “…adults considered politics to be among the most interesting topics of discussion. As a result they read the news avidly. We’ve now decided discussing politics is bad manners, and avoid any exchange of views.”
It’s not that it’s considered bad manners, it’s simply that the conduct of politics and the spin applied that activity, together with their seeming lack of accountability, is so unpalatable to many people that we don’t want to talk about it. We’re depressed enough as it is.
