  • On the self employed being fired. Sadly way to true, and for reasons they would not get away with as an employee.

I have a woman I use as an worker on jobs where she will not be exposed to the public or in general even to the average workers for a client. She is a smart inteligent skilled network tech. Not nearly as good as me 😉 But good. However she has major verbal tourettes. Yes lots of verbal noises including a lot of cuss words. And yes the “F bomb”.

Because of this she really can’t get work. I have also used her with warning the client on emergency jobs. “Yes I can be there in 30 minutes with someone to help me fix your …. and get your workers up and working again, but my assistant will be a woman with tourettes. … ” Or even I can send a person immediately with the parts you need who can install them, but ….

Anyway I also use her without warning in situations where I am the only one who will hear it. I don’t really care that much anyway, and since it is a medical issue …. I did this for one company and came in and did a full four day after hours rewire. They decided they could never use me again after they found out about her. No nobody heard her, but they found out by from what I can tell illegally accessing medical records. And they decided that they could not use someone who “could put up with a person like that.”

Want to guess how long that would have flown if she had been their employee?????
